UPDATE: No Shawnee Smith in SAW V

From an interview with Tobin Bell:

"-Can you tell us if Shawnee [Smith] is in this one?

No, she’s not in this one. There was a moment where she was supposed to be, but she ended up having to go to Bulgaria or some place like that to do some film, and so it didn’t work out. It’s kind of an idea for something, but I hope very much to get Shawnee back into the story. Some things you can control, some things you can’t."

SAW 5 OFFICIAL CAST AND SYNOPSIS

We scored some pretty juicy Saw V bits from Lionsgate this afternoon starting with the final casting news for the film. We learned that Laura Gordon will play Ashley, Greg Bryk (Screamers 2, Shoot Em Up) will play Malick and Carlo Rota (Boondock Saints) will play Charles in the fourth sequel arriving in theaters October 24. If that wasn't cool enough, here's the OFFICIAL synopsis for the film: In the fifth installment of the popular SAW franchise, Hoffman is seemingly the last person alive to carry on the Jigsaw legacy. But when his secret is threatened, Hoffman must go on the hunt to eliminate all loose ends. Click the title for the full cast for the film directed by David Hackl from a screenplay by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton.

SAW V Trap Updates

You're not sick of hearing about Jigsaw and his insane traps? Good to hear, because David Hackl is gearing up to direct his first film, Saw V, for Lionsgate. He's ready to chat and has a lot of good things to say, you can read it all inside. Saw V arrives in theaters October 24 from a screenplay by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton.

Director David Hackl tells us that filming is only a month away. "We are five weeks from shooting, we are deep in prep now and the production offices are buzzing. On Monday our construction team begins to fill our newly renovated 38 thousand square foot studio (The same place that we shot Bousman's Repo! only cleaned up)."

Directing your first movie is an exciting moment, and Hackl is dreaming of a bright future. "It still amazes me when I look into an empty studio knowing that it will be full within a couple of weeks. Tony Ianni has moved into my old spot as production designer with zeal."

As for the traps, Hackl tells us that these are actually going to be dangerous! "Yesterday he (Tony Ianni) handed me a "reference" DVD from Jason Ehl our trap builder. I opened it just before leaving the office to go have my birthday dinner with my wife and kids. The disc was full of real life "inspiration" from industrial accidents, plane crashes and road disasters," he continues, "I almost hurled on my laptop. It all came from a discussion that we were having about the fact that the human body doesn't actually lose that much blood after the heart stops beating. It actually acts like a vessel, containing the blood unless there is an injury that allows it to drain downward. I like attention to detail." I winder how the cast will react to the news that a trap could actually kill them!? "Today I am looking forward to making a phone call to one of our cast to ask him how he feels about getting into a trap that could potentially kill him. For real. Of course we will make it as safe as we can and have paramedics standing by while we shoot. Its not like he really has an option and maybe it will make him appreciate his life. Ha!!"

Watch for more SAW V goodness when filming begins next month.

SAW V Info.

Because you want more.... :D

With the announcement that Lionsgate will bring Saw V to theaters on October 24, 2008, we dropped in a call to our new director, David Hackl, to get a statement for you guys. "You have to realize that I am probably one of the biggest Saw fans out there," Hackl tells Bloody-Disgusting. "My team and I are the ones who have had the awesome task of designing and building the Saw traps since Saw II. So now I'm about to helm Saw V. I'm as psyched as anyone could be. You can let the fans know that they won't be let down or I will have let myself down. Jigsaw might be dead but that would never stop him and it certainly won't stop me. "...My work has just begun." " Watch for our regular coverage to begin as soon as casting is announced.

SAW IV makes 32.1 Million!

Ah, Another year, Another SAW Film, Another success.

I loved SAW IV and since they are already working on SAW V I'm starting the hype train up again already. It kind of sucks because I didn't really hype SAW IV as much as the previous two movies and it managed to be amazingly awesome and refresh my faith in the series. So, hopefully, expect to see coverage of SAW V like I had for SAW II, because now I am HELL OF EXCITED for another flick. I can't wait really.

Honestly the movie look's amazing. I'm hearing from people who are not diehard fans that it's shaping up to be the best SAW yet.
